The gaiasense smart farming system collects, processes and uses remote sensing data for every point on the field.

The information is collected by multiple monitoring systems, such as satellites, drones and other aerial means equipped with state-of-the-art image recording sensors. At the same time, the images are digitally processed in a completely automatic way thanks to the specialized Earth Insight software for immediate visualization of the results on a map. Thus, both gaiasense and its users obtain a detailed and up-to-date picture of the state of the plants and the soil, inch by inch. The condition of plants and soil are visualised in the form of indicators such as the NDVI vegetation index, the NDWI vegetation water status index, etc. These indices give an overall picture of the crops in terms of their spatial and temporal variability, and can be used in decision making in combination with information from atmospheric and soil data and records of the grower’s cultivation activities and observations taken from within the field.

This provides scientific support for a range of decisions concerning the management of specific crops, soil type and microclimate conditions.

Through gaiasense and the gaiasense app, the information is made available in a simple and easy-to-use format, which can be readily and directly exploited by the producer or his advisor.

The gaiasense smart farming system provides valuable information by recording, analysing and interpreting data from the atmosphere and soil at specific points in the fields, continuously, at all times.

This data is collected by the gaiatron telemetric agro-meteorological stations, which are installed at specific points within selected fields, representative of each crop in an entire region.

The gaiatron stations are manufactured, installed and operated by the gaiasense system and NEUROPUBLIC at no financial cost to the cooperating producers or agricultural advisors. They have been designed and developed specifically for the needs of the gaiasense system services and are part of an extensive nationwide network for measuring environmental parameters.

The gaiatron network of telemetric stations includes at least one station for each type of crop, in each microclimatic zone, however small it may be.

In this way, a complete technological system for the continuous monitoring of environmental parameters affecting crops is created.

The data collected by the gaiatron stations relate to atmospheric, soil and biological parameters such as air and soil temperature, relative air and soil humidity, soil salinity, leaf wetness, rainfall, solar radiation, etc.

The information collected by gaiasense from the field is combined with the other information collected by the system and used to accurately calculate the plant’s water needs to determine the right time to water. This helps to continuously assess the risk of pest and disease attack on the plants, monitor crop vigour and rationalise crop nutrition. The result is early qualitative and quantitative forecasting of production.

The gaiasense system allows agricultural advisors and farmers themselves to register information and actions concerning the field and the crop.

gaiasense offers the technological tools needed to record all information related to the farmer’s daily farming operations, such as fertilizer application, plant protection, time and duration of irrigation, harvesting or soil management. It is a complete and detailed picture of the farm that contributes significantly to the decision-making process.
In fact, the system provides special applications for computer and “smart” mobile phones, designed for both agricultural advisors and producers to digitally record farming operations in a quick, simple and at the same time complete way.

At the same time, with gaiasense, the agronomist records various observations during a field visit using the specially designed applications. Such information includes the observation of phenological stages of the crop symptoms of disease and pest infestation, insect counts in insect traps, etc., as well as cultivation operations and data from analyses such as soil and leaf sampling.

The data entering the gaiasense system complements that from other data collection sources, and contains vital information about the plant, soil, water, which is not technically feasible to measure with telemetric stations or remote sensing.
